1. Good News: Where the Intel is Good

Fighting Communism

  1. Since the 2020 coup, an astounding 22,300,000 (22.3 million) Americans have decided to become first-time gun owners. That's quite a repudiation of communism (which requires an unarmed population and you can easily guess why). It also speaks to the fear that people feel in this era of extreme shortages of police added to the problem of DAs in many large cities refusing to prosecute violent criminals, repeat offenders, and home-stealers. The good news is this is not a temporary change. These new gun owners have added themselves to the majority, have awoken from a Pollyanna slumber, and are far more inclined to vote for freedom over communism. In short, the communist strategy of protecting violent criminals so as to invoke fear among ordinary people is backfiring.

  2. Jon Voight speaks for freedom: https://x.com/i/status/1820696287156850803

  3. The same kind of communists that have trashed the USA since the coup spread their idiocy and envy everywhere. A prime example of this is the vandalism of Leo Messi's multi-million dollar mansion. Where were these idiots when Messi was devoting his entire life to practicing and honing his skills? Communists believe that people gain wealth purely by chance. What they don't acknowledge is the work it takes to earn or create that wealth. The vast majority of communist believers are lazy failures in life. Maybe if they would "man up" they could vastly improve their own situation. Instead, they seek to use force to steal from those who have sacrificed to get where they are.

  4. A similar situation has befallen Shannon Sharp, who looks awesome for 55. But he's an NFL Hall of Famer with genetic advantages, a truly annoying lifestyle (not to me, but to most folks) in which he brings his own food everywhere and does not miss workouts, and the kind of discipline you tend to find only among extreme athletes. He got into Cross Fit and they "randomly" test him for juice quite often because of the way he looks. They ignore the way he trains, that can't possibly have any bearing on his physique, right? These judgmental, jealous people also let men compete against women in women's events. How is this related to communism aside from being the attitude behind the Leo Messi property damage? Communism isn't a meritocracy. It's a demeaning system in which those who work hard to achieve or produce are vilified, bullied, and stolen from.

Defeating the communists this November

  1. Since the coup, most states have beefed up their election integrity measures (aka, election protection). In Virginia, the government went to great lengths to prevent disenfranchisement through fraud. Governor Youngkin said, "Every legal vote deserves to be counted without being watered down by illegal votes or inaccurate machines."

  2. Georgia, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, which typically have tight margins, implemented election integrity measures, just not very strong ones. Gretchen the Witch has fought election integrity in Michigan, which is a swing state. Florida, a tight margin state, has enacted strong election integrity measures.

  3. In 2020, the communists used fraud to steal the Electoral College votes of Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia (among others). Those four states will be far harder to steal, this time around. Combined, they are worth 57 Electoral College votes. In 2020, Trump did not have those states due to fraud--in three of them (AZ, WI, GA) Brainless was just barely put over the top by less than 1%. Biden "won" Pennsylvania by 1.2%. If those four had then the election protection measures they have today, Trump would have had 289 Electoral College votes. And it takes only 270 to win.

  4. Virginia, which was also mired in fraud, would be impossible to steal today. But its 13 Electoral College votes would likely still go blue due to the sheer number of government dependents living there (they tend to vote Commie).

  5. CK is going to have a tough time stealing the 2024 election, due to the election protection measures taken by just those four states (AZ, WI, PA, GA). But also, she's a very unattractive candidate in the first place and is likely to lose Nevada, which was blue in 2020 but by only 51.1% to 47.7%. Remember, CK came in dead last in the Democrat Primary in 2020 and when she replaced Brainless on the 2024 ballot many big donors demanded their money back.

  6. There's also been a huge change in attitudes toward President Trump. The abject failures of the communists have resulted in major economic pain to demographics they count on. Blacks and organized labor are two, and among them there's been a significant decrease in Trump Derangement Syndrome. They remember what things were like before the coup, and they are not happy with how far things have deteriorated since the coup. CK, who was American-Indian and recently became Black, isn't seen as a welcome respite from Brainless. She has the same word salad problem, and on top of that failed miserably at the one job given to her (Border Czar). This last is particularly galling to organized labor, which has taken the position that the orders of magnitude increase in illegal aliens is costing American jobs. Illegals don't join unions, they work cheap and they work under the table so to speak. Trump is noted for securing the border and he's also noted for making cheap, clean energy available as opposed to the crazy schemes hatched by the current regime whereby energy is neither cheap nor clean.

  7. Trump has also modified his behavior. He doesn't do all the mean tweets, he doesn't interrupt people, and he doesn't get riled. He comes across as not only confident but as presidential. Then of course, his response following the assassination attempt completely eviscerated some core smears made by the anti-Trumpers. He didn't cower, he STOOD UP. He raised his fist and said, "Fight! Fight! Fight!" And that is what we must do, we must fight for a fair election.

  8. Another big factor is that Mark "I hate the democratic process" Zuckerberg has been under "cajones roasting" for quite some time now, for his various illegal activities. And Facebook is dying. Zuck massively helped with the election fraud in 2020. You don't hear much anti-Trump garbage coming from him these days, in fact he's publicly complimented President Trump.

  9. In the meantime, each of us can help by contacting our own state legislature reps to request assistance with ensuring election protection. Quote Governor Youngkin in your request, I think that will help make it more persuasive.

The C*O*V*I*D* Scam

Anecdotal reports from people I know around the country are that the idiotic practice of mask-wearing is on the rise again. It's in response to the alleged bird flus which are resulting in the senseless slaughter of entire populations of chickens at farm after farm and in response to chatter about another (fake) pandemic. People who are clueless about protecting themselves from illness are taking a cue from the Patron Saint of Harmful Responses to Pandemic Scares, non other than the fake doctor Anthony Fauci. Mask up!

Generally, the maskers avoid engaging in any real health care. As if donning  fabric that can't possibly stop a virus makes up for crippling your immune system by subsisting on highly-processed foods and engaging in other unhealthy behaviors.

During the height of mask mania, I made a point of publicly violating the mask ordinances. I also made a point of asking people about their mask. It would go like this:

  • Me: Excuse me, I see you are wearing a dust mask. I'm sure you have a reason for that, can you please tell me what it is? Maybe I should be wearing one too, so I am really interested.
  • Other: Covid.
  • Me: Well, I certainly can't blame you for protecting yourself from Covid. Do you know how many microns the Covid virus happens to be?
  • Other: No.
  • Me. I didn't either, so I looked it up. That darn virus is really tiny. The biggest ones clock in at only 0.070 microns. I had no idea what that could relate to, I mean what's a micron right?
  • Other: Right.
  • Me: But I happened to have a box of N95 masks and guess what? They can't block anything smaller than 0.300 microns. Says so right on the box. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 300 a lot bigger than 70?
  • Other: Uh, you're saying the mask won't stop the virus?
  • Me: My friend, I'm not saying that. The science is. Or you could say the math. Which is why I'm not wearing a mask, it can't possibly help in any way.
  • Other: Oh, the virus is in your saliva and the mask blocks that.
  • Me: If that were true, then cars would have windshield wipers on the inside instead of the outside. Have you ever seen a car with windshield wipers on the inside?

And then I usually walk off. It's enough to get this person thinking. And I did it without passive aggressive behavior, attacking the other person, or acting like a threat in any way other than not wearing a mask.

At some point, I stopped doing this. I don't know why. But as the November election draws closer and the communists become increasingly desperate to install CK or some other idiot instead of Trump, they will most likely create another fake pandemic to enable mail-in voting fraud on a massive scale same as before. We are already seeing the response to the prelude. So I am giving you this approach as something you can use to help neutralize the brainwashing and fear mongering. Before, with everybody forced to wear a mask it looked like we were all in grave danger. And that helped foment fear, which led to more mask-wearing, which led to more fear. And that amped up fear mentally disarmed the masses.

The thinking among most of the sane at the time is a mask is a small inconvenience and not a hill worth dying on. But that thinking is incorrect. The universal wearing of masks is part of a psy-ops effort. We fight that by pointing out to individuals how stupid the idea is, but in a way that is palatable to them.

Bonus items on the Deadliest Scam of All Time:

  • Here's a great video that explains a bit about how studies can be done poorly, and what the minimum requirements are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q4qaZsk8UU. The presenter also notes that we should not confuse incompetence with malice.
  • Some people are just stupid beyond belief and say stupid things because they lack the ability to think. Anthony Fauci, for example. Speaking of that idiot, watch this: https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1823000289223315573
  • Flowing in Fauci's stream of stupidity was all his nonsense about masks (including the baseless idea "it's an individual thing" even though Fauci advocated for mandatory masking. Those masks stink and what you smell are carcinogens. See this study, for example: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412024004896
  • Why do some people still wear masks? Because they are afraid not to. Fear makes people stupid. And when they are stupid, you can control them.

News for the Gender Confused

Among mammals, an individual's sex is determined when genetic material from each parent gets sorted right after conception. It's determined by the X and Y chromosomes. It isn't possible to have YY, so there are only two possibilities: XX and XY. Thus, there are only two sexes. We call them male and female (XY, and XX respectively). We can trace lineage back via mitochondria only on the mother's side; this fact further collaborates what we know about there being only two sexes.

We have long had "trans" sexuals among us. It had never been a problem in society, people are what they are and some choose to follow a different path for themselves. And these people were both very tiny in number and very discreet about their choice.

In recent decades, "trannies" have grown dramatically in number and militancy. There's no getting around the fact there are only two sexes, but might there be more than two genders? The trans people themselves provide the answer to that question, by their own behavior. They "transition" from one sex to the opposite sex, not to something on a list of 21 genders.

Much of the time, this includes using surgical alteration in an attempt to look more like the opposite sex. If there are multiple genders, then why do these people spend huge sums of money to mutilate their bodies in an effort to look like the opposite "gender"? Men who decide they are women get fake breasts, not an extra penis. Women who decide they are men often opt for a radical double mastectomy, not for a radical breast enlargement operation.

Then we must also ask, "Where are all the trans animals?" Humans are animals. We share 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees. In other words, except for 1% of our DNA we are genetically the same as chimps. And yet Jane Goodall never encountered a single trans chimp. And neither has anybody else.

Veterinary chains like Banfield make big bucks administering unnecessary, unproven, unsafe vaccines to cats and dogs. This is huge for them, and they push it really hard. If they could hop on the trans surgery bandwagon and extend that to cats and dogs, don't you think they would have done so by now? At least in San Francisco (aka Trans Francisco)?

When we, unlike Anthony Fauci, apply basic science to medical questions, we quickly cut through the nonsense to arrive at the truth. If a man wants to live as a woman to the extent he can do that, it's his choice. But he should not be able to say he IS a woman, because that is both delusional and dangerous. When a man still possesses that XY chromosome (it's permanent), there's no amount of hormone treatment or surgery that is going to make him a woman. The fact that men are allowed to compete in women's sports is dangerous to the women, and many are suffering serious injuries. Look at this dude, who has invaded women's boxing while claiming he's a she: https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1822020154219548843

Harm to female athletes is one way this delusion is dangerous. There are many others. For example, being taken to the ER with the wrong sex on your driver's license and insisting you are the opposite sex from what you are can be fatal because protocols for men differ from those for women in many cases. And that is all determined by XY not by how much a dude paid for fake breasts.

Other News

  1. Household debt in the USA has surged to a staggering $17.8 trillion ($17.8 million million). This does not bode well, and it is further evidence that despite the legacy media's warnings of a "possible recession" we are already in a depression and have been for some time now.

  2. While the puppeteers behind Brainless and CK used those two idiots to enable Iran to (via Hamas) attack Israel, thus de facto making the USA regrettably an enemy of Israel, Russia (Iran's key ally) strongly warned Iran not to attack Israel. And according to Iranian media, it was a very serious warning. While WW III obviously holds great appeal to the communists now running the USA federal govt (because it would save the plant by dramatically reducing the number of humans infesting it), that radical view is not shared by the leaders of Russia and other nations.

  3. If we have a federal election in the USA this November, and such an event is not at all certain to happen, then the window for "saving the planet" via an all-out nuclear war will be only three months.

  4. That same window will exist for the other twenty dozen ways the communists are currently working to destroy every bit of this nation's economy, history, legal system, society, civil rights apparatus, environment, educational system, medical care capabilities, food supply, energy sector, science, and security -- to name a sampling of what they have been busily damaging like termites drawn to wet wood. In short, if anything is good in any way, they make it a target for destruction.

  5. "Based on data from a U.S. Treasury report, the federal government has amassed $142 trillion in debts, liabilities, and unfunded obligations. This staggering figure equals 93 percent of all the wealth Americans have accumulated since the nation’s founding, estimated by the Federal Reserve to be $152 trillion."  -- James D. Agresti, President of Just Facts

  6. Here's a good article on what's been going on with our medical care in the USA: https://www.goldcare.com/blog/hidden-agendas-the-nazification-of-american-healthcare

  7. A recent survey of 80,000 small businesses (that's a big survey!) showed that 48.6% believe they will not survive much longer under current conditions. Based on what I have seen since the coup, and especially since the communists plunged us into the current economic depression, most of the remaining 51.4% are overly optimistic. However, the report on that survey wasn't clear as to what was meant by "much longer." The typical small business is heavily borrowing to stay afloat until relief comes in the form of a Donald Trump Presidency starting next year. Allowing for a few months for sane policies to produce effects, these businesses can cease going deeper into debt. And by the end of next year, they can start paying down that debt. See my analysis above on defeating the communists this November. Everything hinges on that.

  8. Impeachment double standard. The communists impeached Trump four times. At the end of his first term, we had the lowest unemployment in 50 years, the rate of inflation was decreasing, we were energy-independent, we met our CO2 targets, peace was being brokered in the Middle East, Russia stayed out of Ukraine, and businesses were growing. All of the opposite is true now after 3 years of Biden. And yet, not a single impeachment.

3. Brainpower tip

You probably know someone who trots out facts you never thought of, saving you from doing something wrong or at least getting you to stop. Or it may simply appear that way. I know more than one person who tries to impress with his (they are all men) "expertise" by making others wrong, and they simply make things up. I'll give you an anecdote, to illustrate.

My kitty is 15, and among other things I noticed some issues with her gait. I took her to a holistic vet clear on the other corner of my county. We had a full lab workout done, plus x-rays and a urine sample. It turns out she had a UTI that had spread to her kidneys. The gait issue is separate, it was just the triggering event for taking her to this particular animal hospital. So she got a time-release antibiotic shot, and the vet wrote out a prescription for a renal diet. This is a special catfood that, among other things, has extra calories and extra potassium. It's not cheap, and it comes in cans that are 3X the normal can size for her. She doesn't want to eat the same thing for all of her meals each day every day (who does?), and she can't eat that whole can before it goes bad.

So, what would you do? You'd divide it up and freeze some of it. Right?

This comes as a pate, but she likes her wet cat food pureed (she's OK with kibble as-is, but not wet cat food). So I always puree it. When I open the can, I dump the contents into a small glass bowl. I add water, and then puree by hand (if I buy something coarser than pate, I use my food processor). Then I put the lid on the bowl and stick it in her spot in the fridge. I serve spoonfuls from that bowl into a cereal bowl for her, until the storage bowl is empty. And that usually takes 1.5 to 2.5 days. In this case, I made two purees and froze one.

Mr. Expert asked how my cat was doing. Instead of saying, "Fine" I made the mistake of telling him she has a kidney infection and her diet now includes a prescription cat food, but it comes in large cans and so after pureeing it I divided it up and froze some.

He tried telling me that freezing degrades the enzymes and I need to serve it to her fresh not frozen. For real. First of all, canned food is by definition not fresh (same with kibble). Second, it's cooked so there aren't any enzymes (that's why I also feed her raw food and give her a probiotics supplement). Third, the alternative is to feed her something that is spoiling or toss out half the expensive prescription food.

He also lectured me on how pureeing increases oxidation. First he said that pureeing increases the surface area. After I pointed out that the opposite is true and explained about asperity points, he said it entrains air into the food. I wonder how this moronic "expert" feels about soup, which could be called an extreme puree.

The whole world was treated to such moronic advice by Anthony Fauci, who poses as a doctor. Thinking people immediately saw through this guy, but most people are not thinking people and for a long time most people believed his line of BS. Many still do.

How do you detect an ignorant "expert" who is actually spewing nonsense? Here are five tips:

  1. Analyze their premise. You can't degrade enzymes that aren't there, so this was a false premise.
  2. Think of scale. In response to his oxidation claim, I told him he was straining at gnats. So you get a 1% increase in oxidation, so what?
  3. Think of counter examples. We stir our food all the time, this whole theory was a non-sequitor. I mentioned that you can buy pureed cat food, and in fact it is recommended for cats who have constipation (puts a lot of moisture in that large colon) or some kind of dental issues (no need to chew).
  4. Think of motive. He's told me enough things over the years that I know he has below average intelligence. He's a gifted BSer, and that's how he gets by. He has a need to impress people by making up "facts" to show he is superior to them. I just know how he is, and I am suspicious when he says anything. My BS detector goes to DEFCON TWO any time he's near.
  5. Look for negativity, the fear factor, or the implication you are doing something wrong due to your ignorance. These are not definitive proof of an ignorant expert, but one or more these conditions is nearly always present.

4. Finance tip

We have been in an economic depression for some time, now. The lamestream media, meanwhile, warn of "a looming recession" which is idiotic in the extreme. We aren't at risk of recession when:
  1. Housing prices have doubled in three years.
  2. Inflation exceeded 100% for the two years ending August 2023.
  3. Companies have been going bankrupt at alarming rates every month for the past three years.
  4. There are chronic shortages of food and other goods.
  5. Food prices are up by an average of 60% from two years ago.
  6. The national debt now stands at $266,000 per household.
  7. Etc.

All of this is a consequence of the coup, which the lamestream media was instrumental in bringing about. That's why they lie about it now.

Before the coup, not a single thing I listed was true. Now, it all is.

Also true is the communists via their pet vegetable Biden removed the sanctions against Iran and also sent them $5.8 billion right after simply giving the Taliban something like $85 billion of advanced weaponry for them to sell to the highest bidder. Now we have two wars going, and a few more nearly ignited.

If the communists cheat enough that CK "wins" the election this November, we can kiss everything goodbye. This is obvious vis a vis the dismal stats listed above. It is very important to debunk the lies being told by the lamestream media so that people think for themselves and draw the correct conclusions.

You can't possibly clip enough coupons or turn your winter thermostat down far enough to make up for the sharp rise in the cost of living. Though all of us will need to conserve and to think carefully about how we spend our money, we also need to address the root problem. Which is criminal corruption of our federal government (don't vote for communists), large banks, large pharmaceutical companies, and the lamestream media. We need to provide them with as little of our business as is practical.

Here's an example. Verizon actually celebrates its wokeness and DEI, both of which invariably corrode any company's competence. Puretalk, by contrast, is avowedly non-woke and non-DEI. Nearly everyone who switches will save money in subscription fees, but the real benefit is you stop voting against yourself with at least some of your consumer dollars.

Some practical things you can do:

  • If there is a television in your home, take steps to ensure it's not a brainwashing machine. For example, use it only for live-streaming of movies and keep "news" completely off of it.
  • Don't subscribe to any newspapers, except for The Epoch Times (which is unashamedly anti-communist).
  • When people you know refer to some article in The New York Times, ask that they cite a credible source and state clearly the New York Times is noted for outright lying instead of reporting news.
  • Cancel your Facebook account, if you have one. This can be difficult if you've been there a long time, but then Mark Zuckerberg didn't think it was important in 2020 that we have honest elections and he took extreme measures to ensure we didn't.
  • When people say they don't want to discuss politics, agree with them and start talking about the economy. About the Depression we are in. Just lay things out as they are. No need to assign blame, and no need to say Trump has a plan for fixing this.
  • If you have drug prescriptions, ask for those to be reviewed and any Pfizer products replaced by some other brand. This is prudent anyhow, because the goal of the "vaccine" injury litigators is to bankrupt Pfizer for the terrible, illegal, unconscionable things they did. And those litigators are building an impressive portfolio of case law with which to bury Pfizer. So whatever Pfizer medications you take now may be unavailable in the near future. Plus, why would you trust them with something you're putting into your body?

Some less practical, but very valuable things you can do:

  • Do a search online for your local (your county) election integrity group(s). But be careful, because there are election corruption groups posing as election integrity groups with the purpose of defeating election integrity efforts. Here's a good place to start: https://whoscounting.us/citizensguide/ . Then volunteer to do some work or maybe form a chapter.
  • Contact a candidate who is trying to unseat a communist. Volunteer to help with election integrity efforts and ask them what you can do.
  • Many libraries, community centers, civic clubs, professional associations, and other organizations are always looking for speakers. Give a speech! Spend some time researching some issue the lamestream media have gotten badly wrong and offer to speak about it. You should be able to speak contemporaneously (no slides, no notes) for 20 minutes. When you give your presentation, that 20 minutes will end up being 30. Many groups offer a 45 minute slot, with Q&A as part of it. Make sure in your presentation that you can cite a few sources and that you don't simply give propaganda "from the other side".
  • Offer to speak to a grade school class on the basics of the Constitution. Make sure you bring copies of it to hand out to the kids, with the idea that at least a few of the parents will read the document.
  • Write short blog articles or similar for sites or blogs that are pro-freedom, anti-communist, anti-fiction, etc.

5. Security tip

Many libtards believe that the Second Amendment doesn't protect the right to keep and bear arms. They further assert this idea was made up by Justice Scalia in 2008 in DC v Heller.

Charles C.W. Cooke, an American historian born in the UK and a senior writer at The National Review Online, answered that assertion in an article that appeared in the August 2024 issue of America's First Freedom. He started off by saying the right to keep and bear arms has been a part of American life since the 17th century, predating our Constitution. He went on to say, "...it was acknowledged and affirmed by every major political scholar of the 18th and 19th centuries; it was explicitly extended to all Americans by the drafters of the 1866 Civil Rights Act, the two post-bellum Freedmens Bureau Acts, and the 14th Amendment."

These are good facts to have in mind when you encounter anti-gunners. And they will be coming out of the woodwork as the November election draws closer. These people allow themselves to be programmed by the echo chamber propaganda of socialists, communists, statists, and others who view individual liberty as a disease and totalitarianism as the cure.

An unarmed populace has invariably proven to be a preyed upon populace. Let's not forget that one of the first things Hitler did after rising to power was to disarm the populace. What followed was horrific, especially for unarmed Jews. Some other facts to keep in mind:

  • Afghanistan has defied being conquered, even by super-power nations. Because they are armed. This lays to rest the idea that armed American citizens cannot stop a military takeover of this country. The reason the Japanese never attempted to invade our homeland is "There's a gun behind every blade of grass."

  • Violent criminals who are killed by law-abiding citizens defending their homes or persons are not repeat offenders.

  • We have chronic and severe police shortages, along with DAs who refuse to prosecute. Our self-defense is up to each of us, not the government.

Don't let brainwashed, blinded-by-lies ignoramuses destroy your personal security. Address their gun fears rationally and politely. For many of these people, the only reason they vote communist (Democrat) is they have an irrational fear of blood in the streets due to guns. Indeed, the communists like to use the idiotic phrase "gun violence" even when violence includes knives instead of guns. Here are some statistics you can relate to them:

  • Most gun-related deaths are black on black crime, involving gangs and drug dealers.

  • Twice as many Americans are killed each year with bare hands and feet than with guns. Are we going to ban hands and feet?

  • Four times as many Americans are killed each year with knives than with guns.

  • The top ten causes of death in the USA are all lifestyle choice related, yet we don't ban tobacco, sugar, or seed oils (the causes of these causes).

My hardest climb ever, a 5.11d on lead: https://youtu.be/UT5h0heUUBc . I made a dumb mistake initially, letting the rope wrap over my shoulder. Watch what happens.

The scale:

  • Beginner: 5.6. 5.7. 5.8, 5.9
  • Intermediate: 5.10a, b, c, d 5.11a, b, c, d
  • Advanced: 5.12a, b, c, d 5.13a, b, c, d. Almost nobody climbs at this level at any of the 5 local climbing gyms.

There is a difference between extending life and extending the quality of life. The former simply means living longer, and it often means languishing in a nursing home bed for five years instead of two. Many of us, myself included, would prefer to be fully functional and able to do things until dropping dead while enjoying a rigorous activity or dying in our sleep. Even if that means not at a ripe old age, though readers of this column know that's exactly what I mean. I fully intend to be climbing hard problems and doing hard weight training sessions at age 100 and beyond. Given where I am at the age I am, that looks entirely achievable.

In a podcast (and other places), Dr. Rick Cohen says that to have this quality of life, you "must lift heavy things". Fitness expert Vince Del Monte talks about using "baby weights" and I write about using less weight to get a better workout. Is Dr. Cohen wrong?

No, and I have yet to find an example where he is. So what gives, here? How can Vince and I be right if it's true you must lift heavy things?

Ronnie Coleman lifted heavy things, way too heavy. He destroyed his quality of life in so doing. Dr. Cohen is not advising that kind of "lifting heavy things".

Let's use the biceps curl to illustrate the principle.

  • I can curl a 90 lb dumbbell if I use poor form and put my back into it. This doesn't do my biceps much of a favor.
  • Now let's say I correct my form and isolate the biceps. Now I can curl "only" 55lbs, but to do that I move only from full contraction (arm straight up so no gravity effect) to 20 degrees. This isn't advancing my fitness.
  • Next, I engage in the mid-range of motion (-20 to 90 degrees, assuming 0 is horizontal and 90 is straight up) and I can do 30lbs this way. This is much better, but I'm not lifting at full contraction or full extension.
  • If I break this into 3 exercises (decline curls, bentover curls, and standing curls) I can get the full range of motion. But now I can lift only 15, 25, and 25 respectively.
  • What if I precede each set of curls with a set of pull-ups or similar exercise? So I do a set of wide-grip lat pulldowns followed immediately with a set of standing curls and complete four sets of this combo without resting between. Then I do a set of pull-ups, immediately followed by a set of mid-range curls for a total of four sets of this combo. I do the same thing with chin-ups/decline curls. My weights are 20, 20, and 10. Believe me, each rep feels very much like I am lifting heavy things. The results are vastly superior to the 90lb cheat curls and the safety is 1000X.

If you use momentum or other forms of cheating to lift, you are effectively reducing the weight of "the heavy thing". It's not about moving the weight, it's about using the muscles to do the work.

Lifting heavy things creates metabolic stress, which is a huge signal for the adaptive response. You also need cellular damage, which newbies try to get via using too much weight. They usually do significant damage to their joints, ligaments, and tendons and due to poor form don't get the intensity that causes the muscle cells to blow out. You also need time under tension, which you get from doing lots of sets back to back (super setting). If you are struggling to move 25lbs, rather than do only 4 reps and lose time under tension (unless you've already done your normal sets and this is a finishing set), reduce the weight so you can lift for at least 40 seconds (that may not be the exact, scientifically proven time).

I also use bands to help me do more pull-ups and chin-ups, but not so much that I'm not getting the feeling of lifting my body. BTW, these exercises must be done in the full range. Drop all the way down so your shoulder blades are out, then bring your head above the bar. Anything other than this is cheating and you are cheating yourself of the benefits these exercises can bring.

The curl example I gave illustrates the point of using less weight in a smart way. It does not illustrate the totality of lifting heavy things. If your program is missing squats, deadlifts, or similar exercises then you are not lifting heavy things. In general, you need to lift things off the ground. If, for example, you do the Farmer's Carry (even with buckets of water), then you are lifting heavy things. Walking is not "lifting heavy things" except where I live with these steep hills it is lifting heavy things. Stair climbing is "lifting heavy things" as is the sport climbing I do.

A climbing buddy of mine is a full-time yoga instructor. For him, yoga is far more than stretching poses. It does incorporate "lifting heavy things" although many people who say they practice yoga stick with the easy stuff instead of embracing the "lifting heavy things" part.

Whatever your training program is, make sure it entails "lifting heavy things" (not tossing them about). Just because things are heavy and you can use momentum or other cheating methods to lift them doesn't mean you are "lifting heavy things". If you do isolation exercises or gym machines (which isolate), don't forget that the "lifting heavy things" effect must be felt by the largest muscle groups to actually extend the quality of life.

At www.supplecity.com, you'll find plenty of informative, authoritative articles on maintaining a lean, strong physique. It has nothing to do with long workouts or impossible to maintain diets. In fact:
  • The best workouts are short and intense.
  • A good diet contains far more flavors and satisfaction than the typical American diet.

7. Factoid

Democrats don't believe in democracy. Anyone who even suggests they do has not been paying attention to how they treat people who disagree with them (deplatforming, bullying, libeling, slandering, threatening, etc.).

8. Thought for the Day

People who gaslight and bully are essentially telling you they have nothing good to offer. So don't listen to them. When rebuffed, they simply assume they haven't gaslighted or bullied enough, so they just do it all the more. Rather than argue with them, call them out on their bad behavior and ask them to stop.
